Packing for a Halong Bay Cruise: The Complete List

Apr 18, 2026 Packing for a Halong Bay Cruise: The Complete List

What to bring, what to leave at home, and the one item every first-timer forgets. The definitive packing guide for a Halong Bay cruise.

Space is at a premium in a cruise cabin, and most itineraries depart early — there’s rarely time to make a last-minute shopping run. Pack thoughtfully.

Clothing

  • Light, quick-dry layers — mornings and evenings can be cool
  • Swimwear (two sets — one is always damp)
  • One smart-casual outfit for dinner
  • Comfortable shoes for cave walking (uneven surfaces, occasional steps)
  • Flip-flops for the boat deck

Sun and Sea

  • High-SPF sunscreen — the water reflects UV aggressively
  • Polarised sunglasses
  • Reef-safe sunscreen if you plan to swim

The Item Everyone Forgets

A dry bag for your phone and camera during kayaking. We provide them on Le Journey, but if you’re travelling on another vessel, bring your own. Getting your phone wet on day one of a cruise is a very specific kind of miserable.

What to Leave Behind

Hair dryers (provided in cabins). Heavy books (your phone’s Kindle app is fine). Formal wear. The bay is naturally casual — no one is judging your outfit at dinner.
