Not all seasons are equal on the bay. Here's our honest, month-by-month breakdown to help you pick the perfect window for your cruise.
Halong Bay’s climate is divided into two main seasons: a cool, dry winter (October–April) and a warm, humid summer (May–September). Both have their charms and their caveats.
Arguably the best months to visit. Temperatures hover between 18–25°C, skies are predominantly clear, and visibility across the bay is at its finest. Book well in advance as cabins fill quickly.
January and February can bring drizzle and fog — but this creates an ethereal, ink-wash painting quality that photographers adore. Temperatures can dip to 15°C, so pack a light layer.
Warm but not yet humid. Water visibility is excellent for kayaking. Fewer crowds than peak season, and prices are often more competitive.
Typhoon season peaks in July–August. While many days are perfectly sunny, there’s a higher chance of weather disruptions. Reputable cruise operators monitor conditions closely and adjust itineraries as needed.
